Initial Flood Warning for the Nicholson and Leichhardt Rivers

FLOODING OCCURRING ALONG THE NICHOLSON RIVER AND ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS OCCURRING ALONG THE LEICHHARDT RIVER
Widespread heavy rainfall this week has caused river and creek level rises across the Nicholson and Leichhardt catchments.
Major flooding is being observed along the Nicholson River at Riverslea and Gregory Downs. River levels are likely to rise downstream at Burketown Airstrip over the next few days.
Further areas of widespread rainfall with locally heavy totals are forecast to continue for the next few days, which is likely to result in further river and creek level rises.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of North-Western Queensland and North Tropical Coast.
