Major Flood Warning for the Georgina River and Eyre Creek
Issued at 2:57 PM AEST on Saturday 28 Feb 2026.
Flood Warning Number: 44
RIVER LEVELS STEADY NEAR THE MAJOR FLOOD LEVEL AT MARION DOWNS, WITH FURTHER RISES AND A SIGNIFICANT MAJOR FLOOD PEAK LIKELY NEXT WEEK
MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT BEDOURIE AND GLENGYLE, WITH SIGNIFICANT RENEWED RISES LIKELY FROM LATE NEXT WEEK
Significant rainfall and river level rises have been observed across the Georgina and Eyre Creek catchments over the last several days.
Along the Upper Georgina River, a flood peak is currently around Urandangi. Major flooding is occurring at Roxborough Downs, with river levels continuing to rise. These flows, in addition to initial inflows from neighbouring tributaries, have caused near-major flooding at Marion Downs. A significant major flood peak is expected to arrive from later next week as floodwaters from Urandangi and Roxborough Downs travel downstream.
Further downstream along Eyre Creek, inflows from King Creek and neighbouring tributaries have caused initial rises ahead of the main upper Georgina peak. River levels are steady above moderate flood levels at Bedourie and Glengyle. With widespread rainfall continuing to ease during the weekend, and river levels steadying at nearby locations, major flooding is no longer expected at Glengyle during this weekend. However, significant renewed rises are expected during the coming weeks at Bedourie and Glengyle as floodwaters arrive from the upper parts of the catchment.
Peak forecasts will be provided as upstream peaks are observed.
Additional river rises, localised flooding and overland inundation remain possible across the catchment as floodwaters move downstream. Road access is likely to be affected, and communities may become isolated. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of the Georgina-Eyre Creek catchment.
Georgina River to Marion Downs
Major flooding is likely at Marion Downs. Major flooding is occurring at Roxborough Downs and moderate flooding is occurring at Glenormiston.
Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs
River level rises are occurring along the Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs.
Eyre Creek
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Eyre Creek at Bedourie. Major flooding is possible at Glengyle. Moderate flooding is occurring along King Creek at Cluny.
