Ergon Energy crews are working to restore power to hundreds of customers in north-west Queensland after another night of wild electrical storms.

Patchy but intense storms hit the Gulf of Carpentaria yesterday, with a fall of 48 millimetres recorded at Normanton and 84mm at Broadwater, west of Croydon.

Ergon's Mark Timmerman said 11 customers between Georgetown and Mount Surprise had lost power for the second time in 24 hours.

He said about 370 customers in the Karumba area of the Gulf were also without power.

"Another concern we have this morning is unfortunately 11 customers on a section of network between Mount Surprise and Georgetown," he said.

"Now those people were off yesterday for an extended period of time before we found a damaged lightning arrester on as section of line there.

"They're off again unfortunately this morning and we don't know what that cause is."

Helicopters are likely to be used again today to identify storm damage.
